Establishment of Federal Health Professional Council

The Federal Health Professional Council (FHPC) has been established on the 1st December 2021 with the following experts and representatives to serve and care for the welfare of healthcare workers during the interim period of the Spring Revolution and the transition period after the success of the Revolution.

Note: The composition will be expanded as required.

The objectives of the Federal Health Professional Council are:

  • For all Ethnic Communities within the Union to be able to benefit equitably from a safe, reliable and quality health care system;
  • To continually promote and advance the medical/professional knowledge, standard, skills and proficiency of the healthcare workforce;
  • To give recognition and endorsement of healthcare workforce already providing healthcare in all regions and to promote the quality of current healthcare courses;
  • To continually promote gaining of knowledge and skills of contemporary and modern techniques by the medical workforce and to safeguard and uphold their professionalism and conduct as a regulatory body;
  • To approve and provide acknowledgement and recognition of qualifications, be it undergraduate or postgraduate, and to issue a licence to practise with or without restrictions

Ways forward are:

(a) To give recognition and honour the graduates of medical universities, colleges and technical colleges in the Federal Union and issuance of licence to practise;

(b) To evaluate, test and appraise the standard and quality of clinical practice of the healthcare workforce;

(c) To set up tribunal hearings for those in the healthcare workforce who have suffered injustices and defend their rights, and to admonish and reprimand those on professional misconduct issues;

(d) To maintain a safe and reliable standard of care in the private healthcare sector of the Federal Union by consultation and discussion and laying down rules and regulations, and help regulate by regular assessments and audits;

(e) To raise the standard of healthcare in all ethnic communities by working together in consultation, discussion, dialogue and sharing of information and knowledge with respective health organisations
